Olean UU Community

            What do Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists, and others have in common?  They can all belong to a Unitarian Universalist fellowship if they choose.  Unitarian Universalism (UU) is a liberal, chosen faith which has no official creed but is based on seven principles.

They are:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
  •

    The late Paul Newman was a member of UU.  So were Clara Barton, Susan B. Anthony and Thomas Jefferson, to name a few.  Some of these folks were actually a member of one of the two congregations that came together to form UU.  Unitarian Universalists were active in the women’s rights movement and the civil right’s movement.
